Islands Inspired Project

Our group TAPIS wanted a project to get some creative juices flowing and some inspiration for tapestry weaving. Members submitted a variety of photos, the group voted to select for the inspiration project a photo that was taken by Ian Bailey, spouse of Isabelle Fusey, one of our weavers.

Photo is a view taken from Denman Island of Hornby Island, islands surrounding Vancouver Island.

Each tapestry artist designed and wove a piece inspired by the selected photograph. Eight weavers produced a total of 11 pieces based on the following guidelines: tapestry could be any size, wall or functional format, realistic or abstract and depending on the amount of time a weaver had to complete their tapestry by the deadline of June 2.

Our group hosted the unveiling of the project at the Bradley Centre located in Coombs, BC on Vancouver Island. Below are the tapestries on display.
